International Award UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21
Winners and Award Ceremony
25 July 2024, Mexico City

 

Dear members,

The objective of the International Award UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21 is to celebrate the work of cities, local or regional governments, and leading individuals who have excelled in the promotion of innovative practices linked to the exercise of cultural rights, citizenship and sustainable development. The Award has two categories: “City, Local or Regional Government” and “Individuals”.
 
The call for the 6^th edition of the Award was open from 29 November 2023 to 3 April 2024.
 
This year, the Jury decided that the winners of the Award were (in alphabetical order):

• In the category “City, Local or Regional Government”: “Capital of Youth Culture”, presented by Gwanak-Gu (Seoul, Republic of Korea), and “Traditional medicine information and guidance centres – Qullañ Uta”, presented by La Paz (Bolivia).
• In the category “Individual”: Milena Dragićević-Šešić and Alfons Martinell Sampere.

 
The Jury also decided to distinguish the following cities as special mentions:

• Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain), for the initiative “Bilbao Balioen Hiria (BBH) – Bilbao City of Values”.
• Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), for the initiative “Poto-Poto Cultural Circle”.
• Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg), for the initiative “Great Dreamers”.
• Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), for the initiative “Cultural Policy Regeneration of Urban Heritage through the Culture of Dialogue”.
• Ramallah (Palestine), for the initiative “Moving Culture forward”.
• Xi’an (People’s Republic of China), for the initiative “Culture for All Policies”.

The Award Ceremony will take place in Mexico City on 25 July 2024 in the context of a special event organized by the Secretariat of Culture of Mexico City. If you are interested in attending the Ceremony, please do not hesitate to write to us.
