Responding to the Earthquake Crisis in Morocco
Dear members,
We are writing to you today with heavy hearts, united in solidarity, in response to the tragic earthquake that struck Morocco on the night of Friday to Saturday. This devastating event, with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, has resulted in the loss of over 2,700 lives and widespread destruction, leaving countless citizens and communities in urgent need of assistance. Our thoughts are with the people of Morocco during this challenging time.
In line with our unwavering commitment to solidarity, our World Organization UCLG, with UCLG-Africa, encourages its members to provide support through all the channels available including the UCLG International Solidarity Fund. This fund serves as a powerful symbol of our dedication to unity, resilience, and rapid response in times of crisis.
Your participation is essential to provide assistance to the affected regions and communities and to exchange information with the membership in Morocco, in particular through the Moroccan Association.
To facilitate our response efforts, we are leveraging the existing Permanent Working Group on Territorial Prevention and Management of Crises. We invite you to contact us with information on how your organization is already acting, and to let us know if you are interested to hear about needs and make specific contributions.
Please contact us at policy@uclg.org and let us unite in solidarity once again.
Sincerely,
The UCLG World Secretariat
