10th World Water Forum
18-24 May 2024, Bali
Dear members,
We are writing to you to provide you with up-dates on the upcoming 10th World Water Forum, co-hosted by the Government of Indonesia and the World Water Council (WWC) and hosted by the Government of Bali, that will take place from 18 to 24 May 2024 under the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”.
Background
The United Nations Water Conference in March 2023, which gave rise to a historic mobilization of all stakeholders, has laid the groundwork for a strong political commitment to address the full range of water-related challenges during the upcoming 10th World Water Forum as the largest multi-stakeholder event in the world.
The 10th World Water Forum will bring together policy makers, multilateral institutions, academics, civil society representatives and private and public operators, among others, to share experiences, identify priorities and propose concrete solutions in the areas of water and sanitation.
In the run-up to the Forum
The signature of a strategic partnership in 2022 between UCLG and the World Water Council paves the way for an unprecedented consideration of the role of local authorities both in the Forum's political and thematic process.
The local and regional government constituency gathered in the Global Taskforce, facilitated by UCLG, will have the opportunity to ensure our action moves toward protecting access to water and sanitation as a common good and as a fundamental human right and building on our calls at the UN Water Conference.
It will also provide an opportunity to advocate for local water priorities, network and build partnerships, and make influence policies associated with the local water context. These outcomes will help building the capacity to understand local issues and the condition of water and promote water governance at the local level.
For action
Please inform the UCLG World Secretariat, by 20 September, if you intend to get involved in the preparation of the next World Water Forum, by e-mail, and if you are interested in participating in a first information meeting in the presence of the World Water Council, for an information point.
Acknowledging the progress made in the file following the motion presented during the World Congress in Daejeon by the Councillor of Aude Deparment, Mr. André Viola, and considering the importance of the issue in view of the upcoming World Water Forum, the Executive Bureau in Brussels agreed to further develop the work around water, through a dedicated Community of Practice. Should you be interested in being involved in the work of this Community of Practice, we invite you to write to the World Secretariat.
We remain at your disposal to provide any further information you may need. Do not hesitate to write to us at policy@uclg.org.
Sincerely,
The UCLG World Secretariat
