Dear members,
Aligned to the concurrent global discussions on Climate change induced migration and displacement in June 2023, we are glad to invite you to an online peer learning exchange on Local and Regional Government (LRG) actions towards Climate Migration and Displacement, organised by UCLG as part of the Call to Local Action on Migrants and Refugees, by the Mayors Mechanism (UCLG, MMC, IOM) in partnership with UNHCR.
This online Peer Learning event will gather cities and stakeholders to discuss local and regional actions to mainstream climate action while preserving the life and dignity of all people unconditionally. This event will focus on territories affected by the impacts of climate change, and those that are seizing the opportunities brought by migrants and displaced communities to reinforce urban and community resilience to climate emergencies, while fostering the socio-economic inclusion of the affected groups.
Virtual sessions will take place at the following hours to facilitate participation from across the globe, with each session building on the discussions and exchanges of the previous ones:
- July 4th, 9:00 - 12:00 CEST
- July 4th, 15:00 - 18:00 CEST
- July 5th, 9:00 - 12:00 CEST
- July 5th, 15:00 - 18:00 CEST
Participation in one session each day is strongly recommended to facilitate deeper engagement and discussions.
This Peer Learning Event will be preceded by a Technical Visit hosted by the City of Paris on June 27 and a thematic workshop organised by the French presidency of the GFMD on June 28.
Kindly note that participation is limited and that preference will be given to technical staff from local and regional governments with concrete local practices or challenges to share. Registration is open until 28 June through this form. Among the practices and expressions of interest received, five LRG representatives will be selected to join the Technical Visit in Paris on June 27.
