Circular 8/2023 Barcelona, 30 March 2023 To the members of the World Council To the Secretaries General To the Vice-Presidents of United Cities and Local Governments To the Chairs of UCLG Committees, Working Groups, Communities of Practice and Fora For information: To the Presidency Local and regional governments’ delegation to the United Nations Habitat Assembly 5-9 June 2023, Nairobi Dear members, The second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly (a universal body composed of the 193 member states of the United Nations and convened every four years) will be held from 5 to 9 June 2023 at the headquarters of UN-Habitat in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of the session is “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises”. You can find more information and the draft program here. As you know, the Executive Board of UN-Habitat is now meeting and the modalities of the Assembly will soon be defined in detail. What we do know is that on Thursday 8, the morning will be the space dedicated for us to convene the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, as well as the session on SDG Localization (which will have finance as a special theme). Additionally, it is very likely that our constituency will be able to nominate speakers for both the Official Opening and Closing. All this is still to be defined. FOR ACTION In order to organize our political representation and provide accreditations, we would need to receive the names of your delegation as soon as possible. Please note that registration for the Habitat Assembly is now open and compulsory. The call for side events is still open, until April 11, and you can apply through this link. Further up-dates will be provided as soon we receive them. We remain at your disposal should you have any questions and look forward to receiving additional information from your side should you have any: policy@uclg.org. Sincerely, The UCLG World Secretariat
