World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders – UCLG Congress, 10-14 October 2022, Daejeon
Call for session proposals for the Local4Action Track
Deadline: 15 May 2022
Dear members,
The World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, convened by UCLG, is the largest gathering of mayors around the world. It is also the World Summit of the most influential local and regional leaders, councilors, local governments, partners, and actors implicated in the decision-making of city and community life.
This year’s edition will count on a renewed format and enhanced collaboration between members and partners.
This call for proposals is dedicated to the Local4Action Track.
The Local4Action Track will be offering a platform to
share, listen and
review, as well as showcase the different dynamics that UCLG and its partners have developed, from actions to policies, to thinking, going through movements, values, and discussions & conversations, connecting the local to the global, and the global to the local.
The Local4Action Track is composed of three different formats to foster a wide range of participation across the different spheres implicated in the work and development undertaken by UCLG and its partners:
•
Local inspiration to the world:
Come and see w
hat’s happening at the local level
Unfolding the processes and experiences of creation and co-creation of policymaking in the city, implicating all levels of governance and actors of the urban sustainable development will compose this format (Open to UCLG members, national government, partners of UCLG, constituency members and UCLG consultation mechanisms).
•
Global Conversations:
A seat at the Global table!
Ongoing Global Conversations that integrate the current trends and global challenges will be at the heart of this format, implicating the Global Task Force, Stakeholders, Global Partnerships, and High Level exchanges, opening the Dialogue between life at local level and the global Conversation that impacts citizens’ life (Open to Global Task Force constituency, Global Institutional Partners, Stakeholders)
•
Labs:
Interact and learn
This format will be dedicated to interactive sessions for trainings and specific workshops, with a larger duration (Open to UCLG members, national government partners of UCLG, constituency members).
It is suggested to focus the proposals on the three main axes of the Pact for the Future:
People
A stronger agenda on supporting rights in the city, including the right to adequate housing for all, cultural rights, and digital rights, as a critical tool in leaving no one and no place behind and as the sole antidote to the rise in discriminatory and xenophobic discourse. The equality and feminist movement as well as human mobility agendas will also be a strong part of the Axis.
Planet
The need to build new models for ecological transformation and in relation to nature. It could explore further the issues linked to fair and equal distribution of the benefits of climate action and resilience building, the strengthening of care systems, protection of public services and common goods, decentralized and local energy, including water and sanitation.
Government
Local democracy agenda and redoubling efforts around peace, transparency, and open government. The peacebuilding agenda will be an essential driver for the Pact for the Future.
