Dear members,
 
The 6th UCLG World Congress, which has just concluded in Durban, has been a success in many respects according to the feedback of participants. The issue of migration has been widely addressed and this reflects both the interest of our members and their commitment to the integration and inclusion of migrants in their territories. A clear mandate was given to the Global Secretariat to support members in the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM) and also to bolster the narrative on migration.
 
The 12th Global Forum on Migration and Development will be held in Quito from 20 to 24 January 2020. In this forum, local and regional authorities have an important role to play in reinforcing the governance of migration at the local level through the Mayoral Forum, which each year calls on Member States to address the institutional framework and means of action needed by local communities.
 
We invite our members who so wish to participate in this event, which will take place one year after the adoption of the Global Compact on Migration and the Mayors' Declaration on Migration in Marrakesh. At this meeting, the aim is to analyse how local governments are strengthening migration governance at the local level and to promote local government adherence to the "Call to Local Action" launched in Durban by UCLG, IOM and the Council of Mayors for Migration.
 
Registration is open until 29 November on this online platform, where you will also find the up-dated programme. We ask our members to inform us if they intend to participate in the Mayoral Forum (m.boussraoui@uclg.org , f.fernandez@uclg.org).
