World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders - 6th UCLG Congress
Statutory meetings: save the dates!
11-15 November 2019, Durban
Dear members,
As you know, the 6th Congress of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders will take place on 11-15 November 2019 in Durban, South Africa.
ABOUT THE SUMMIT
This gathering will see representatives from the world of local and regional governments come together over five days to define the global agenda of cities and regions for the coming years and to develop inputs for the upcoming international processes. This year, the Summit is structured around four tracks:
- The Assembly track: Presenting the policy inputs from the Sections and membership
- The Town Hall track: Presenting proposals of organized civil society
- The Local4Action track: Showcasing members and partners’ experiences
- The Statutory track: Our Congress will be adopting our work plan and culminating in elections of our governing bodies
The World Summit will also see the celebration of the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments (not to be confused with the UCLG General Assembly) which is convened by the Global Taskforce and includes participation and inputs from other networks. This Assembly will receive the recommendations from the Assembly and Town Hall tracks and will shape the policy direction of our full constituency of local and regional governments internationally.

This circular aims at inviting UCLG members to include in their agendas the dates of the Congress and the statutory meetings, as described below.
EXECUTIVE BUREAU, 13th November 2019, 14:30-16:30

This will be the last meeting of the Executive Bureau for the current mandate. There will be a new Executive Bureau appointed for 2019-2022 in Durban during the World Council.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 14th November 2019, 16:30-18:00

The General Assembly gathers representation of all the members of UCLG. It has the responsibility for the overall policy, direction and oversight of the World Organisation. It will receive the reports from the Presidency and the Sections.
It will appoint the members of the World Council, based on the electoral processes that are taking place this year throughout the sections.

WORLD COUNCIL, 15th November 2019, 15:00-18:00

This will be the first meeting of the newly appointed World Council for the 2019-2022 mandate.
The World Council will decide the general policies of the Organization for the next period and adopt the work programme for 2020. It will elect the Presidency and the Treasurer of the World Organization. It also appoints the members of the Executive Bureau among its memberships and following the electoral processes that have taken place throughout the sections.

PROGRAMME, REGISTRATION AND LOGISTICS
The World Secretariat is currently liaising with the hosts in Durban in order to finalize practical arrangements. We will share more information about registration, hotels and visas in the coming weeks. Registration is expected to open in July.
