Second United Nations Habitat Assembly: World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, Statement and Side events
5-9 June 2023, Nairobi
Dear members,
The second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly will be held from 5 to 9 June 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of the session is “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises.” You can find more information on the Habitat Assembly here.
As you know, the World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments facilitates the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments (GTF), which gathers the full constituency of local and regional governments. It is in that capacity that UCLG coordinates the Local and Regional Government delegation and its formal representation in the second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, in close partnership with sister networks. UCLG further convenes the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments which is the political instrument acknowledged by the outcome document of the Quito Conference on the New Urban Agenda.
