The fifth webinar in the Climate Conscious Cities: Urban-Act Webinar Series explores how the integration of Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in urban climate policies can result in equitable, just climate action that leaves no one behind.
Across the Asia-Pacific region, it is crucial for subnational and local governments to actively support the diverse needs of all people in their climate action plans, investments and governance systems. Ignoring local knowledge, experiences and agency of communities makes climate solutions less responsive and effective and risks an unjust transition. For instance, women and girls often have different needs when accessing safe and reliable transport; people with disabilities may be excluded from green public spaces due to a lack of accessibility features; and residents of informal settlements and informal workers frequently endure the harshest impacts of climate change, such as flooding and extreme heat, without adequate resources to adapt.

Throughout 2024, the monthly Climate Conscious Cities: Urban-Act Webinar Series will provide the opportunity for practitioners and policymakers to meaningfully exchange in dialogue and impactful ideas, and increase practical knowledge of low-carbon and climate-sensitive urban development.
