UN Human Rights 75
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Dear members,
At the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and UCLG invite Local and Regional Governments to commemorate this special year through the Human Rights 75 initiative.
You will find a letter co-signed by Mr. Volter Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Ms. Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments, to invite local and regional governments to join the initiative and to explain the type of activities to be promoted at the local level to enhance progress and engagement towards human rights.
We also share with you a toolkit for social media prepared by UCLG to expand outreach and communication on local and regional governments’ action on human rights in this significant commemoration; as well as a short document with key information on the Universal Declaration, a milestone document in the history of human rights.
The initiative is implemented in the framework of the cooperation agreement between UCLG and the OHCHR, and builds on the achievements of the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030” launched by the UCLG Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights.
